What does Casa Carey do?
Beach Patrol
During Turtle nesting season, volunteers working for Casa Carey walk alongside beaches searching for turtle nests.
Beach Cleanup
The Casa Carey program cleans the beaches in the Padre Ramos Natural Reserve in Nicaragua.

Turtle Research
Casa Carey volunteers and staff go out in motorized boats to do water surveys, catch turtles, tag them, and collect data.
Replanting Mangrove
Mangrove forests are vital for the environment and support Hawksbill turtles. Casa Carrey has taken the initiative to try to replant these dwindling forests.

Hatchery Monitoring
Of the turtle nests found, they are brought to a hatchery until they hatch. Once they hatch, they are released back into the wild.
Community Building
Casa Carrey is trying to combat the root of the problem by talking to schools and community members about the environment and the costs of losing it.

Join the Movement!
Casa Carey is located in the Padre Ramos reserve in Nicaragua. Its mission is to save the critically endangered Hawksbill turtle. Casa Carey has built its organization within the reserve's communities and is looking for volunteers to help with the conservation effort.
What to expect?
Casa Carey volunteers will participate in conservation efforts, including physically demanding tasks like night patrols and turtle tagging. However, witnessing Hawksbill turtles firsthand is worthwhile—by releasing the babies, encountering a laying mother on the beach, or capturing and tagging an older turtle in the water.
You'll relax at Casa Carey's home when you're not engaging in night patrols or working on conservation efforts. This house is surrounded by beautiful mangrove forests, a stunning ocean, and abundant wildlife, including birds and fish, that are frequently spotted.
The Casa Carey home is vibrant, with other volunteers and locals dedicated to this conservation mission. Observing how humans collaborate to create a future where animals and humans coexist is an eye-opening experience. The Casa Carey program is on the front lines of saving the critically endangered Hawksbill Turtle. To learn more, check out Casa Carey's Instagram @cooperativa_casacarey.
What does your help do?
Volunteers are doing the necessary work for conservation efforts. One more person searching for laying turtles or helping release newly hatched ones improves the odds of preserving the critically endangered Hawksbill turtle. Today, when so many species are critically endangered, we must do what we can to maintain our world's biodiversity.
